ANTI-WRINKLE PRODUCTS
If life begins at 30, so do wrinkles. How many women over 30 can truthfully
declare that they are not worried about the dreaded W phenomenon? Take heart,
however, because the market is now overflowing with
anti-wrinkle products
that
claim to arrest the aging process and make you look younger. Sadly, though,
while the second is a possibility, aging is irreversible, as we all know.
Before we proceed further, let us see why.
What causes wrinkles?
Plenty of factors converge to give you those laugh lines and crow’s
feet. First, your skin type, which is fixed according to a genetic pattern,
determines how extensively you display the effects of aging. So if you have
thin and dry skin as opposed to oily skin, your wrinkles will show up more
vividly. Similarly, darker skins tend to show fewer effects of aging than
lighter tones. And your ‘laughing eyes’, which you may have inherited
from your grandmother, can actually make you more vulnerable to crow’s
feet.
However, genetics is only part of the problem. Natural factors such as weather
changes and the sun’s ultra-violet (UV) rays also affect the rate of
wrinkle-formation. In fact, studies reveal that UV rays damage the collagen
and elastic fibers that lie in the skin’s deeper layer or dermis that
give the skin its elasticity. Damage to these tissues and fibers means
that
the skin loses elasticity, making it prone to wrinkles.
Finally, our lifestyles greatly impact our skin, far-fetched as that may sound,
and the prime culprits are drinking, smoking, and rapid weight gain and loss.
While alcohol dehydrates skin cells and affects the levels of collagen, smoking
interferes with the flow of blood to the skin, thus damaging the collagen network.
So what can you do about it?
Obviously, anti-wrinkle products need to enter your life. These products are
available in various formulas, though creams and lotions sell the most. The
principal aim of these products is to rejuvenate the skin and reduce the effects
of aging; however, a lot of them also claim to perform other functions, such
as hydrating the skin, reducing dark circles under the eyes, and smoothing
the skin.
Among the most popular anti-wrinkle products is Revitol Complete, while another
is Royal Gold Anti-Wrinkle. Of course, these are merely examples, and ought
not to be taken as definitive anti-wrinkle products. You may have to search
for something that suits you, but our point is that you will not lack options.
While a few products will be available only upon producing a prescription from
a dermatologist, most anti-wrinkle products are sold over the counter.
Most anti-wrinkle products display results within a month of your starting
to use them, but beware of products that quick results. They
may contain ingredients that can induce side effects that may require additional
treatment. In general, most anti-wrinkle products contain a few of these ingredients:
alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, argireline, Shea butter, and Edelweiss
extract. Optional ingredients include Vitamin A, primrose oil etc. While the
effect of these ingredients may vary from person to person, results are usually
positive.
