Wrinkle Prevention
Is
wrinkle prevention
for real? As in stop them from happening to you at all,
ever?
I guess you know the answer to that one. No, you can't ultimately prevent
wrinkles from appearing on your face. All you can do is prevent wrinkles from
appearing too early.
So, how do you prevent wrinkles from appearing on your face and body prematurely?
What causes wrinkles in the first place?
First and foremost on any list of wrinkle prevention tips should be mentioned
the greatest cause behind wrinkles and the premature aging of skin. It is an
environmental factor that you can't completely avoid and it’s called
sunlight. It's the invisible ultraviolet part of the suns rays that damages
your skin. Repeated and prolonged exposure to strong sunlight can therefore
cause wrinkles to appear in the exposed areas after some time.
So how do you prevent this kind of damage? Well, there's a preventive mechanism
built right into our bodies. It's a pigment called melanin that is responsible
for skin, hair and eye color. Melanin has the ability to stop the greatest
part of the UV radiation from penetrating beneath the outer layers of the skin.
But the problem is, not everyone has the same amount of melanin in their skin.
Fair-skinned individuals have the least amount of this protective substance.
That is why these individuals suffer the most from sunburn.
So if you are fair-skinned, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and be sure
to wear a hat and sunglasses when you’re out in sunlight and use a sunscreen
lotion or cream. This simple advice is nothing new BUT will go a long way towards
preventing wrinkles whether you realize it or not.
Another important factor behind the aging of skin is a substance found in
our body, called free radical. These are a kind of oxygen molecule that move
freely around our blood stream, and cause damage to many physiological processes.
In the skin, they attack and deplete the layers of collagen and elastin, two
substances that provide your skin with its much-needed toughness and elasticity.
As a result, your skin loses its ability to withstand wear and tear, and to
spring back to its original shape after alteration. Ultimately, these effects
result in wrinkles.
The most successful way to battle free radicals is to use anti-oxidants, in
the form of tablets or creams or both. When you shop for wrinkle prevention
products, remember that specially prepared creams may absorb or neutralize
free radicals in the important areas of the skin.
Certain foods like carrots and tomatoes contain beta-carotenes which are powerful
anti-oxidants. Also available are pharmaceutical products for wrinkle prevention
that contain all of these. Using these will help you prevent wrinkles till
you are old enough that they become desirable!
